Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), one of the six 4G mobile communication licensees in Taiwan, aims to deploy 3,000 4G base stations in 2014 and 7,000 in two years, according to company executive vice president and chief sales & marketing officer Maxwell Cheng.
FET plans to kick off 4G commercial operations on a 700MHz frequency band in the third quarter of 2014, Cheng said.
Asia Pacific Telecom, the only CDMA 2000 mobile telecom carrier in Taiwan and another 4G licensee, plans to bring forward its 4G commercial operations from the fourth quarter of 2014 as originally scheduled to the third, according to the company. Asia Pacific Telecom plans to set up 3,000 base stations in 2014 and plans to take the initiative among 4G licensees to launch voice over LTE services (VoLTE), the company said.
Mainly because 4G smartphones introduced to the Taiwan market do not support VoLTE, FET will not launch such services in 2014, Cheng indicated.
