Irene Chen, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Monday 17 March 2014]
Taiwan-based networking/communication device maker Alpha Networks has been developing 24GHz-based radar sensing technology to help prevent cars from colliding, and has been in talks with automobile makers, according to company chairman John Lee.
Alpha Networks has also considered applications of the technology for health care, especially for the elderly, Lee said.
Through cooperation with Qualcomm, Alpha Networks will offer 3G/LTE Small Cells in the second half of 2014, Lee indicated. For switches, Alpha Networks has offered 40G and 100G models and will focus marketing on use in cloud computing data centers and white-box vendors in 2014, Lee said.
Alpha Networks will expand production capacity at its factory in Changshu, eastern China, from nine production lines currently to 13 in 2014, Lee indicated.
Of Alpha Networks' 2013 consolidated revenues of NT$24.104 billion (US$808 million), 46% came from LAN and MAN (metropolitan area network) devices, 25% from wireless networking products, 18% from digital multimedia products and 11% from mobile and broadband devices.
